Usually, before I dive into something new, I love scouting around for examples or role models for inspiration, and this blogging venture is no different. Our super thoughtful ICT teacher handed us a bunch of cool blogs to check out (and 👀yes, it was also part of our homework). But enough small talk, let's get to the meat of it!
I took a deep dive into Hana Ticha's blog(Link) – eyeballed her layout and most of her posts. Now, I’m ready to dish out some raw, unripe opinions from four angles: Content, Organization and Layout, Navigation, and Target Audience. First up, content-wise, Hana is this idea-factory of an English teacher. She shares a lot of teaching activities and insights, real solid stuff. She's been at it since 2013, right up until April 2023 (but seems to have hit pause recently?)

But (you know there's always a 'but'), the organization and layout of her posts are a hot mess – I just can't with plain all black text on white! (screenshot on the right) It kills my vibe, even if the content's gold. Sure, some might not even care about these ‘trivial’ aesthetics. But in my blog, bold fonts, savvy image use, neat bullet points, eye-catching font sizes and colors, all that jazz – they’re like flashy packaging that keeps the readers hooked. Think about it: the top-selling products aren’t just about quality; they have that standout packaging. So, in my upcoming blog posts, I plan to jazz up my 'product packaging.'🙌
Navigation-wise, I could zip through her blog using the sidebar links, and the titles are all laid out upfront. There’s even a ‘most popular’ post section – clever, right? Everyone's curious about what's going virus. And there are great features like search bars, quick sharing, likes, and subscribe buttons. But (yep, another 'but'), I couldn’t find any spot for comments or past reader feedback. Maybe the blogger shut it down to avoid the internet trolls? Can't say for sure, but it's one way to escape from those nasty comments.
Lastly, I’m guessing her blog targets English teachers, especially those in elementary education, looking for fresh, effective teaching tricks.
Speaking of which, let me quick mention are my potential audience: (no surprises here) English teachers eager to explore ICT in teaching, esp. ESL teacher. I'm planning to share all the juicy ICT knowledge I've gathered, with weekly updates for 8 weeks (who knows, I might just have the blogger talent and keep going like Hana for a decade).
🌙Goodnight, my dear readers!
(Logged at midnight, while I'm still hustling through assignments for other courses)
Wow! What a great start to your blogging journey! You have a natural, chatty style which is very engaging - I couldn't help smiling! You have also quickly caught on to the importance of a consistent layout and font - you keep to orange for your highlighted words which also harmonises with your background nicely. I like the promise of jazzing up your product packaging but don't go too mad - what you've got here is appealing to the eye and restful! One small comment is that I would make sure that your font is all the same size - unless it is a heading I see no reason to change font size and small fonts can be hard to read. Think of your reader and be kind to our eyes!! All in all an excellent start - well done!
